Cartridges for Kids® and Staples Recycle for Education®  Keep recycling!  Look for the Cartridges for Kids and Staples Recycle for Education boxes at the school.  Recycling boxes are located in the Security office.  Bring in your empty inkjet, laser, fax, and copier cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, PDAs / Palm Pilots, and iPods.  Everything we recycle equals FREE MONEY for Gateway Middle School!  If you have questions about Gateway’s recycling program, or you have a business that would like to use Gateway as your printer cartridge and cell phone recycling site, please contact Dori Mashburn, VP Fundraising, at GatewayVPofFundraising@gmail.com.

What is Connect-ED?  The district and each of the schools have the capability to contact parents and guardians using the contact information/registration form that you update or complete at the start of the school year.  Maintaining accurate contact information will guarantee that you receive the important messages sent from your school. Contact Mrs. James in the Counseling Office at (425) 385-6610 or pjames@everettsd.org anytime there is a change to your mailing address, e-mail address, phone numbers or emergency contact information.  One more way that we can stay connected!

Box Tops:  Save your General Mills Box Tops and send them in (please remember to cut them out and save our Box Top Committee a TON of time).  These labels can earn Gateway free merchandise such as:  reference books, sports equipment, musical instruments, etc.  Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting Campbell's Soup labels because the products offered are geared more toward elementary schools.  However, if you want to send them in we will gladly send them to our neighbor, Forest View Elementary!

New Committee Chairs:  Grab a friend and co-chair a committee!  It's so much more fun with two...look on the second page of any newsletter and you will see a lit of committees.  There are quite a few that are open.  If you are interested, please contact our VP of Volunteers, Gloria Hee, at GatewayVPofVolunteers@gmail.com or (425) 337-2976.

FREE MONEY FOR GATEWAY:    Gateway Middle School participates in the WaMoola for Schools® program sponsored by Washington Mutual.  There are currently 87 Gateway families who are enrolled and Gateway just received an $800 donation from Washington Mutual!  If you are a Washington Mutual customer and haven't enrolled your card, please go to http://www.wamu.com/about/wamudifference/currentpromotions/wamoolaforschools.asp.  If you're not a customer, you may open an account online or go to any Washington Mutual Bank.  Spread the word about the WaMoola for Schools® program - what an easy way to support Gateway!

School Contact Information / Variances:  Please remember to keep all information current, including address, telephone numbers, and/or contact people.  If you have a change or you receive your variance approval for the next school year, please contact Mrs. James in the Counseling Office at (425) 385-6610 or pjames@everettsd.org

Volunteer Opportunities:
NOTE:  Sponsor PTSA Members, please disregard the volunteer requests.
Walk-About:  Early Morning Walk About:  If you have just 1/2 an hour once a month, we could sure use your help!  Volunteers are needed to help with student supervision once a month from 7:40 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. when the Gateway Staff have their monthly meetings - simply walking the halls and being an adult presence is all that's needed.  No confrontation involved, simply walking about the Commons, hallways, etc.  Please contact Chairperson, Jerry Washington at Jerry.Washington@gmail.com  or Gateway Security Guard Tom Viloria at tviloria@everettsd.org (425) 385-6363 for more information.

FUTURE PUBLICATIONS

Is there anything you'd like published in a future issue of the Gateway Guardian?  Keeping in mind this will be mailed to ALL gateway families, you might have something you'd like to share with everyone.  Some suggestions are:

This newsletter is for all PTSA and Gateway Faculty/Staff to use to better communicate with our school families.  If you have something you'd like to have published, please email it to me.  Articles are typically due the 20th of each month.

You may also put a hard copy in the PTSA Newsletter Envelope which can be found in the PTSA box in the office.

Extended Learning Club:  The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Any student is allowed to come and work on assignments, homework or projects and there are always two certificated staff and usually a math teacher on call.  They are specifically looking for volunteers for the 3rd Tuesday and 4th Thursday of each month.  The parent/community volunteers help to answer student questions and offer encouragement. The volunteers rotate among students helping to maintain the focus. The kids really appreciate the extra help that we offer.  Please contact all Joan Voorheis (425) 385-6609 or jvoorheis@everettsd.org or Pattie Selby at (425) 385-6608 for pselby@everettsd.org
